About This Place

Nestled in the heart of Washington, DC, Puglisi HairCuts stands as a timeless destination for discerning gentlemen seeking expertly crafted haircuts with a personal touch. This classic barber shop at 2040 I St NW has been a staple of the community since the 1960s, and its enduring legacy is built on decades of experienced barbers who truly understand the art and precision of men’s grooming.

Walking into Puglisi HairCuts feels like stepping into a reliable, no-nonsense environment where craftsmanship takes center stage. The shop embraces a traditional barbering ambiance that reflects its long-standing roots—unpretentious, comfortable, and focused on delivering excellent service rather than flashy frills. Customers appreciate the authenticity that comes with a business deeply embedded in the city’s history.

The barbers at Puglisi are masters of their craft, bringing both skill and care to every cut. Whether you’re after a sharp high and tight, a clean fade, or simply want to tidy up your look, these seasoned professionals deliver consistent, satisfying results. One regular, Russell Keske, praises the shop as his go-to for haircuts in DC, appreciating not only the quality but also friendly pricing—typically $35 per cut plus tip—which is notably more affordable than comparable services in other big cities.

What sets Puglisi HairCuts apart is the genuine care and unhurried attention customers receive. Elliott Cole, a long-time patron since 2017, highlights how each barber’s personal technique offers a slightly unique but consistently excellent outcome, ensuring every visit leaves you feeling confident about your style. This is a place where the barber never rushes the appointment—your haircut is given the time and focus it deserves.

Families are also welcomed warmly. Luis Deocares took his 7-year-old son here and found the experience both accessible and fairly priced, demonstrating the shop’s inclusive approach to grooming across generations. If you’ve ever had an unfortunate haircut elsewhere, Puglisi is known for making things right. Customer Sandi Pasagic shares a heartfelt recommendation after Jose expertly fixed a previous bad cut in ways she hadn’t imagined possible.

One practical note to keep in mind: Puglisi HairCuts is a cash-only establishment, but an ATM is conveniently located nearby, ensuring your visit will go smoothly. The shop also maintains strong health and safety protocols—including consistent mask use—making it a safe and comfortable choice in today’s environment.

In total, Puglisi HairCuts is more than just a barber shop; it’s a reliable sanctuary for men who value quality, tradition, and a straightforward approach to grooming. Whether you’re new to the city or a lifelong resident, this time-tested barbershop invites you to experience a haircut done with skill, patience, and a genuine love for the craft.

This is my go-to spot for haircuts in DC. It’s less expensive than the place I go to at home in Chicago, usually $45 ($35 haircut plus $10 tip) and the barber never rushes the appointment! I am always happy with how my haircut turns out. Remember that they are cash only, but there is an ATM nearby! Would recommend!

I’ve been to a lot of barbershops in DC and hands-down these guys are the best! For all the guys out there, they do an amazing high and tight cut and they do it so well while following the safety guidelines(face masks always on). They are OPEN right now go check them out!!!

Great place for men's haircut. They don't do appointments, but the wait is reasonable. I took my 7 year old boy too, and I found out that they don't have children's prices. Their prices are fair so I may even bring him back again. Expect a pretty traditional barber shop premises, with experienced hairdressers who know what they are doing.

I’ve been coming here for haircuts since I moved to DC in 2017 and they’ve always done a great job! I usually get a short cut on the back & sides and some length taken off the top — each barber has a slightly different way of cutting but I’m always happy with the result. Its a business that has been in the city since the 60s and each barber has been cutting hair here for 20+ years! It’s a cash-only place and a standard cut is $40 now, which has increased over the last 3-4 years but it’s understandable why due to inflation and in-office workers declining since COVID. The price is still similar to most places but these are all great guys who are friendly and get to know you, so you really feel at home when you drop by for a cut. Highly recommend!

I got a bad cut somewhere else a few weeks ago. I came in to Puglisi and Jose fixed that haircut in ways I never thought was possible. Highly recommend

Big picture: Enjoyed my haircut with Tony! He is very skilled and gave me what I was expecting after I showed him a picture. Very reasonable haircut price ($35 cash only in October 2023, not including tip). Good Morning America was playing on the TV in the background. More details: Tony is a good man who has worked in this area for decades. I appreciated hearing pieces of his story. I look forward to visiting again soon! Accessibility: there are stairs to walk down to access the front door. I’m unsure if there’s another way to access the store for those with mobility challenges.

Been coming here consistently since moving to the area. Very solid haircuts, they also do shaves. I know I can expect a good haircut here and everyone is very friendly.
